At Awards International we love nothing more than hearing about how an organisation transformed their business results through changing what they were doing.

When thinking of our own success, a winning mind-set means not just thinking of ourselves but sharing success as well.

And that can include thinking of people who may need a bit of a leg up in life.

There can be no more important work than helping children restore damage caused by a difficult period in their lives. There is nothing more valuable to society and probably nothing more generous and helpful that any of us could do.

That is why we have partnered with Barnardo’s since 2010 to raise money through our awards for young people who have been abused or need help because of a bad start in life.

Every year, we set ourselves a target, and this year our target was to raise £16,000 with our customers and events.

At the inaugural UK Business Award on Friday November 11th our customers donated £3018.50 from their own pockets.

This together with the money raised at our other events in 2016 means that we have smashed our initial target and raised £17,162.85.

With one more event this year, we would like to see if we can nudge this over the £20,000 mark.

The money is raised via a raffle for some neat prizes at the awards and this year we have sold over 1700 tickets!

In 2015, Awards International and our customers raised £11,841 for SERAF, a Barnardo’s service in Wales that works with sexually exploited children.

Our customers paid for 60 vulnerable children to access group therapy sessions. To help them first acknowledge then come to terms with their abuse and begin to recover.

In 2014/15 Barnardo’s worked directly with 3,176 sexually exploited or ‘at risk’ children and young people. They have supported children as young as 10 years old to recover from this abuse. They currently run 47 Child sexual exploitation services projects throughout the UK.

Sadly as the need for Barnardo’s services is growing, the number being referred to their services in 2015/16 grew by a shocking 49%.
Barnardo’s help children and young people escape their abuse and support them throughout their recovery journey. They work with these children for as long as it takes; checking in with them even after their case has been closed. They also support those who are going through the distressing court process to bring their abusers to justice.
